Coconut has been named the flavour of 2016 by Firmenich, the world’s largest private company in the fragrance and flavour industry.
As the association between wellness and the popular seed remains strong and its versatility only grows, more consumers are transforming into coconut fanatics! To keep up with demand, the number of pure and flavoured coconut products has increased 121% since 2010, with an annual growth rate of 17%.*
The demand is not showing any signs of slowing down. Chris Brockman, senior food and drink analyst at Mintel (global market intelligence agency) says, “Coconut in general is benefiting from being ‘on-trend’ on a number of fronts, and coconut flavoured variants as a whole can be expected to continue to grow across the food and drink sector.”
The seed is holding onto its market roots with coconut water, although big brands are also expanding to offer flavoured products to target the demand.
